The Pride of Proper Nouns

The Pride of Proper Nouns

The stuffed ashtray
Your case to collect
Unsolicited opinion
Drilled dogma
Deadening monoxide.

I stare at it
In fear
And trepidation.

Another cigarette
Fire at life’s end
Ghostly smoke
Ash, powder and dust
Loss of materiality.

Is this how
We create proper nouns?
Big, complex blocks
Grated to simple powder
Is this what you take pride in?
